Sunday morning drawstring bag

Sunday morning drawstring bag

Today’s been a pretty rainy grey day. Ideal to get yourself a cup of tea (I’m in England after all), set up your sewing machine and sew a drawstring bag for someone special :)
I’ve recently bought a stack of fabric – it’s really hard to contain yourself once you’ve found a decent online retailer.. (in my case e.g. Plush Addict). The grey science (chemistry) fabric and the turquoise one look fabulous combined and are an excellent choice for my donee.

If you want to sew a similar project, the best place to start is Love Me Sew. I altered the bag here and there, added some interfacing to make the bag a bit firmer, made a flat base and created a custom fastener. It’s really useful and quite pretty :)

The bag is roughly 20 x 30cm (A4) and costed under £3. Since I have some leftover fabric I guess I’ll make another one :)

  • Fabric (depending on the size of the bag)
  • Lining (same amount as fabric)
  • Interfacing (same amount as fabric & lining)
  • Cord
  • Matching thread
  • Scissors
  • Pencil/chalk for marking
  • Measuring tape/ruler
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron & board
  • Sewing pins
